Deltasone (Prednisolone) has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, desensitizing, antitussive and immunosuppressive effects. It is taken to reduce inflammation and reduce the symptoms in a variety of conditions like ulcerative colitis and asthma When using Deltasone (Prednisolone), the effects of the drug are realized through stabilization of cell membranes, inhibition of macrophage accumulation, reduction of leukocyte migration, reduction of capillary permeability, which prevents the formation of edema.
Indication for use
Deltasone (Prednisolone) is used to treat adrenal cortex insufficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, subacute thyroiditis, contact dermatitis, serum sickness, persistent or seasonal allergic rhinitis, angioedema, rheumatoid arthritis, pyloric myocarditis, red ankylosis, sclerodermatitis, pyloric fibrosis, recurrent polychondritis, systemic vasculitis, exfoliative dermatitis, severe seborrheic dermatitis, pemphigus, severe psoriasis. Its use is advisable in the treatment of autoimmune diseases, inflammatory joint injuries, eye diseases, respiratory and liver lesions, as well as cardiovascular, neurological and oncological diseases.
Prednisone is often used in transplantology to prevent the occurrence of rejection reactions.
Precautions
Deltasone (Prednisolone) is not prescribed if the patient has a peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum, kidney failure, osteoporosis, predisposition to thromboembolism, severe arterial hypertension, herpes zoster, chickenpox and Cushing’s syndrome.
If you are pregnant or have breastfeeding period the treatment can be administrated only under doctor’s control.
Dose and usage
Deltasone (Prednisolone) can be in different dosage: 2.5 mg – pink, round tablet with DELTASONE (prednisone) 2.5 inscription; 5 mg – white, round tablet with DELTASONE (prednisone) 5 inscription;10mg – white, round tablet with DELTASONE (prednisone) 10 inscription; 20mg- peach, round tablet with DELTASONE (prednisone) 20 inscription; 50mg – white, round tablet with DELTASONE (prednisone) 50 inscription.
The tablets are taken orally without chewing. 2/3 of the daily dose or the entire dose is recommended to be taken in the morning (8 o’clock in the morning) and 1/3 of the dose in the evening.
For adult, the drug is prescribed in a starting dose of 20 to 30 mg, the daily maintenance dose is from 5 to 10 mg. If necessary, the initial daily dose may be from 15 to 100 mg.
For children, the drug is prescribed 1 or 2 mg per kg body weight, and the maintenance dose for children is from 300 to 600 micrograms per kg body weight of the child. The daily dose in the treatment of children should be divided into 4 or 6 doses.
Side effects
Deltason treatment can trigger next side effects: obesity, hemorrhagic pancreatitis, menstrual irregularities, ulceration of the digestive tract, decreased immunity, increased blood coagulation, mental disorders and withdrawal syndrome.
