Noroxin (Norfloxacin) – an antimicrobial synthetic agent of a broad spectrum
of fluoroquinolones, has a bactericidal effect. Suppressing DNA gyrase disrupts
the process of DNA supercoiling. Noroxin
(Norfloxacin) is widely used in patients who get frequent urinary tract
infections. But you have remember that this antibiotic medication can cope only
with bacterial infections. You can’t take it to treat viral infections (cold,
flu). If you use any antibiotic when it is not
needed it will not work for future infections.
Indication for use
Noroxin (Norfloxacin) can be taken by adults
and children under 12 who have:
· Urinary tract
infections (cystitis, pyelitis, cystopyelitis, pyelonephritis, chronic
prostatitis, epididymitis),
· gonococcal
urethritis,
· acute bacterial
gastroenteritis,
· pharyngitis,
· proctitis,
· cervicitis,
· typhoid fever.
Precautions
Noroxin (Norfloxacin) is
not recommended to use if you have: hypersensitivity,
pregnancy, lactation period, prepubescent age.
Dose and usage
Dose of Noroxin
(Norfloxacin): 400 mg – peach, oblong, flat tablet, imprinted on
one side with Noroxin and on the other side MSD 705.
For
urinary tract infections – 400 mg twice a day for 7-10 days; with uncomplicated
cyst – 3-7 days; in chronic recurrent urinary tract infections – up to 12
weeks; for acute bacterial gastroenteritis – 5 days; in acute gonococcal
urethra, pharyngitis, proctitis, cervix – 800 mg once; for typhoid fever – 400
mg 3 times a day for 14 days. For the prevention of sepsis use 400 mg 2 times a
day; for the prevention of bacterial gastroenteritis – 400 mg per day.
Side effects
Under the
action of this medication the following side effects can be observed: anorexia, dyspeptic
disorders, headache, dizziness, sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety,
irritability, euphoria, disorientation, hallucinations, tinnitus, lacrimation,
rash.
