Description

Calan (Verapamil) is a medication that is classified as calcium channel blockers. It helps to cope with high blood pressure, to reduce high blood pressure, helps prevent strokes and treats chest pain (angina). Calan (Verapamil) averts heart attacks, and kidney problems. Under the influence of this medication blood vessels relax giving the chance to blood to flow more easily. Calan (Verapamil) normalizes also the heart rate, improving your feeling and increasing your ability to exercise.

Indication for use

Calan (Verapamil) can be taken by almost all adults and teenagers over 18:

• Angina at rest including: Vasospastic angina, Unstable angina

• Chronic stable angina (classic effort-associated angina)

• Arrhythmias

• Prophylaxis of repetitive paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia

Precautions

Calan (Verapamil) is not recommended to use if you have: hypersensitivity to the components of the medication; severe bradycardia; chronic heart failure IIB – III stage; cardiogenic shock (except caused by arrhythmia); sinoatrial block; sick sinus syndrome; Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome; Morgagni-Adams-Stokes syndrome; acute heart failure; simultaneous use of iv adrenergic blocking agents; pregnancy, breastfeeding.

Dose and usage

Calan (Verapamil): 120mg – peach, elongated, small tablet , 180mg – peach , elongated, medium tablet with the line in the middle ,240mg – light green, elongated tablet with the line in the middle.

Before taking this medication consult with your attending physician. Usual dose is 80 mg to 120 mg three times a day. In case of Arrhythmias – from 240 to 320 mg/day. In case of Essential Hypertension – 80 mg three times a day (240 mg/day).

Side effects

Sometimes Calan (Verapamil) can have some cases side effects: dizziness, headache, constipation.
